Craft Content & Moderation Policy

1. Our Approach

Craft is a place to build and play stories and games: adventure, science fiction, horror, romance, and everything in between. We want browsing Craft to feel like browsing a good bookstore or game store, with room for many kinds of fiction, including work intended for adults.

Our approach has two goals:

• Give creators room to explore. Mature themes, difficult subjects, and explicit content can belong on Craft within the boundaries of this policy.
• Help players choose what they encounter. Ratings and filters make the range of content clear. Explicit content is available only to adults who opt in.

Private play and private creation have different rules from public sharing. Your sessions and unpublished files are private and subject to the automated moderation described below. Anything you share publicly must also meet the publishing rules in Section 5, including content accessible through a public direct link.

These rules cover content across Craft, whether it is part of a system, world, package, or individual file.

2. Where the Rules Apply

Public images also may not contain nudity, gore, or other graphic violence.

3. In-Game Play

Your game sessions are private. Craft applies an automated moderation check to every text-generation request. Requests flagged by that check are blocked. This check applies throughout Craft and blocks only sexual content involving minors or minor-coded characters.

Beyond that automated check, Craft does not filter, restrict, or steer the text the Game Master generates in private sessions. The public content standards in Section 5 do not apply to your private game messages.

Model behavior. Some AI models are more likely than others to refuse certain topics, including topics allowed on Craft. You can choose a different model in your settings, but its responses may differ too.

Message privacy. Craft staff do not read or manually review your game messages. Staff will only view a game message if you ask us to debug a problem and provide the specific request ID, and only to resolve that issue.

4. Private Creation

Unpublished content follows the same rules as private play. This includes systems, worlds, packages, characters, lore, locations, maps, Game Master instructions, and drafts that only you or people you explicitly invite can access.

Automated moderation applies to generated content. Beyond that check, Craft does not read, review, or scan your private content.

The publishing rules take effect when you share content publicly. Sharing through a public direct link counts as public sharing, even if the content does not appear in Discover or search.

5. Publicly Shared Content

5.1 Content Ratings

These rules apply to all content shared publicly on Craft, including systems, worlds, packages, and their files: characters, lore, locations, scenarios, mechanics, and instructions for the Game Master.

Craft automatically assigns content ratings and tags based on the published material and the experience it instructs or encourages the AI to produce. Creators do not need to assign these themselves.

A rating indicates what content may contain, not what every session will include.

• General. Content suitable for a general audience without viewer discretion. May contain mild violence or language, but not content for mature audiences.
• Mature. May contain mature themes such as sex, violence, or other adult subject matter. Sexual activity stays off-screen. Combat gore may be described, but extremely graphic violence and sexual gameplay mechanics require an Explicit rating.
• Explicit. May contain mature themes such as sex, violence, or other adult subject matter, including described sexual activity, sexual gameplay mechanics, or graphic violence.

Attraction, kissing, or acknowledging that characters have sex does not by itself require an Explicit rating. Describing sexual activity as it happens, or instructing the AI to describe it, does. Sexual gameplay mechanics always require an Explicit rating, even when they are optional or sexual activity happens off-screen.

Content is rated Explicit even if these scenes or mechanics are optional or only a small part of the experience.

Combat gore in text, such as a severed leg or blood spurting from a fallen enemy, can be rated Mature. Extremely graphic violence, such as prolonged, highly detailed torture, mutilation, or body horror, requires an Explicit rating even without sexual content. These distinctions apply to text and instructed narration. Public images may not contain gore or other graphic violence at any rating.

Explicit is a rating, not an exemption from the publishing rules. Some content is prohibited at every rating.

5.2 Sexual Content and the Bookstore Standard

Craft aims to offer the range of fiction you might find in a general bookstore: adventure, horror, political drama, romance, and stories written for adults. That includes romances with explicit sex scenes.

Sexual content may be frequent, important to the story, or part of its appeal. A romance does not need an unrelated adventure plot to justify its sexual content, and a scene does not become prohibited simply because it is sexually arousing.

The boundary is between content that supports storytelling or roleplaying involving sex and content built mainly to generate sexual encounters.

Explicit content may center on desire, intimacy, or sexual relationships, but the narrative and player choices should matter beyond determining which sexual act happens next.

Sexual gameplay mechanics are rules, actions, stats, resources, or progression that directly govern sexual activity. They are allowed when they do not make up the majority of gameplay and do not glorify extreme subjects, such as sexual violence or incest. Games containing sexual mechanics are always rated Explicit. All other publishing restrictions still apply. Nonsexual affection, trust, or relationship trackers do not count as sexual mechanics.

This applies to individual contributions as well as complete experiences. A character file, location, or instruction package does not need to contain an entire story. We consider what it contributes to play and what it directs the AI to do.

We do not require a particular prose style, a moral lesson, or a judgment of literary quality.

For example:

• Allowed, Mature: Content supporting a romance between rival performers, with attraction and a developing relationship, while keeping sex off-screen.
• Allowed, Explicit: Content supporting the same romance with directly described sexual encounters, alongside the characters' ambitions, disagreements, and changing relationship.
• Not allowed to be shared publicly: Content providing a roster of sexually available characters and instructions to deliver repeated encounters, with little meaningful interaction or consequence beyond those encounters.

Content built mainly to generate sexual encounters is not eligible for public sharing, even if it is labeled as romance or includes detailed backstory and world-building. What matters is whether the characters, relationships, and player choices have a meaningful role beyond those encounters.

5.3 Content That Cannot Be Shared Publicly

Pornographic content

Craft does not allow content built primarily to generate sexual encounters for gratification, with characters, story, or gameplay serving mainly as a pretext.

Indicators include:

• Characters described chiefly through sexual attributes, availability, or the acts they will perform.
• Instructions that repeatedly steer interactions toward sex, regardless of the player's choices or the situation.
• Scenarios and progression that mainly unlock sexual encounters, with little development beyond them.
• Sexual encounters designed to repeat without meaningful changes to characters, relationships, or circumstances.
• Titles, descriptions, or promotional material presenting the content chiefly as a way to obtain sexual encounters.

These are indicators, not automatic violations. Explicit language, frequent sex scenes, or a focus on romance does not establish a violation on its own.

Other prohibited purposes

We also prohibit content built primarily to shock or disgust, glorify real-world atrocities or their perpetrators, or promote hatred or harassment based on protected characteristics.

Content that glorifies or encourages suicide is prohibited. Fiction may address suicide, suicidal thoughts, grief, and recovery without celebrating suicide or encouraging people to act on suicidal thoughts.

Fiction may depict cruelty, prejudice, atrocities, and characters who endorse them. We distinguish those depictions from content that itself encourages or celebrates that conduct.

Images

Explicit sexual text and explicit sexual imagery have different rules. Pornographic or sexually explicit imagery is not allowed anywhere on Craft. Public images, including covers and other published artwork, may not contain nudity, gore, or other graphic violence.

5.4 Content Prohibited at Every Rating

The following cannot be shared publicly, regardless of rating or surrounding story:

• Sexual content involving minors or minor-coded characters, including attempts to bypass this rule by declaring an otherwise minor-coded character to be an adult or using an “aged-up” framing.
• Sexual content involving real, identifiable people.
• Sexual violence or incest presented for sexual gratification, including as a reward or objective of play. These subjects may be addressed as events or themes within a larger story; narrative context does not excuse eroticizing them.
• Actionable instructions for real-world violence or serious crime. A fictional framing does not make practical guidance for carrying out real-world harm acceptable.
• Content that violates others' intellectual property, privacy, or other legal rights. See Section 5.7 for how copyright takedown requests are handled.

5.5 How We Evaluate Content

Craft uses automated systems to rate content and evaluate it against these rules. We also reserve the right to review content manually and make the final judgment about its rating and whether it may be shared publicly.

5.6 Enforcement

Depending on the issue, Craft may adjust a content rating or limit availability:

• Unlisted: Content remains accessible by direct link but is removed from Discover, recommendations, and search. This applies only to content that remains eligible for public sharing.
• Restricted: Content is returned to private and is no longer publicly accessible. Whether it remains playable privately depends on Craft's other applicable rules.

Content prohibited from public sharing cannot remain available through a public direct link.

Accounts that repeatedly violate this policy may have their ability to publish content restricted at Craft's discretion.

5.7 Copyright and DMCA Takedowns

If you use another person's copyrighted work in content you publish on Craft, they can send Craft a notification of claimed infringement, which is sometimes referred to as a “takedown request” or a “DMCA notification.”

Once such a request is received, we review it to make sure it has the information required by applicable copyright law to be valid. If the takedown request passes the review, the allegedly infringing content will be disabled or removed from Craft to comply with applicable copyright law.

We understand that creators often don't break the rules intentionally and that any copyright infringement may not be intentional. However, if a takedown request is valid, a copyright strike will be applied to the infringing account. Accounts that accrue 3 or more copyright strikes are generally considered repeat infringers and may, at our sole discretion, have their ability to publish content disabled or their accounts suspended.
