Stunts
What a stunt is
A stunt is a trick, maneuver, technique — or a signature piece of gear — that changes how an approach works for your character. You compose your own; two templates keep them honest.
Template 1: +2 in a circumstance
Because I [exceptional trait, cool gear, or awesomeness], I get a +2 when I [Carefully / Cleverly / Flashily / Forcefully / Quickly / Sneakily] [attack / defend / create advantages / overcome] when [circumstance].
Worked examples from the rules:
- [Smooth Talker](@Missing file) — +2 when Sneakily creating advantages in conversation.
- [Lover of Puzzles](@Missing file) — +2 when Cleverly overcoming puzzles, riddles, or similar conundrums.
- [World-Class Duelist](@Missing file) — +2 when Flashily attacking in a one-on-one swordfight.
- [Big Kite Shield](@Missing file) — +2 when Forcefully defending using the shield in close combat.
If the circumstance is especially restrictive, the stunt may apply to both create an advantage and overcome.
Template 2: once per session, break the rules
Because I [exceptional trait, cool gear, or awesomeness], once per game session I can [something cool].
Worked examples:
- [Well Connected](@Missing file) — once per session, find a helpful ally in just the right place.
- [Quick on the Draw](@Missing file) — once per session, go first in a physical conflict.
- [Run Circles Around a Leopard](@Missing file) — once per session, show up anywhere you could run to, no matter where you started.
These are starting points, not shackles — if you have a good idea that fits the table, bend the template with the Narrator's buy-in.
Stunts and refresh
Your first three stunts are free. Each stunt after that costs 1 refresh. Your refresh can never drop below 1. New to the game? It's fine to take your first stunt after your first session, once you've seen what your character actually does.
