Player's Handbook · Chapter 12

Resting, Reaction & Morale

Between battles there is only the mud, the smoke, and the wait. What you do with that time decides whether you live to see the next one.

Catching Your Breath

Have a smoke, devour a ration. Restore d4 HP.

A Good Night's Sleep

A good night's sleep heals d6 HP and relieves d2 SHOCK (see the SHOCK chapter).

Starving & Infection

Without adequate rations, grvnts cannot heal on rest. After two days, starving grvnts lose d4 HP per day. Infected characters do not heal by resting and instead lose d6 HP per day.

Reaction (2d6)

Only used when an NPC's response is uncertain. War can be confusing — not everyone responds the same.

2d6Reaction
2–3Attacks on sight!
4–6Prepares for battle
7–8Cautious
9–10Curious
11–12Pleading for help

Morale (2d6)

Most enemy combatants will not fight to the death if they can save themselves. Roll Morale when:

  • an enemy group leader is killed,
  • half an enemy group is killed, or
  • a single enemy has 1/3 HP or less.

If the roll is higher than the enemy's morale score on their stat block, roll another d61–3 retreat, 4–6 surrender.
