Promotions
There is no ladder to climb out of the mud. There is only the mud, and the few who get noticed in it.
When You're Promoted
Promotions are what this system calls levelling up, and the Game Master decides when one is issued. They are typically awarded to grvnts who have performed perilous deeds of great personal bravery or self-sacrifice — deadly deeds so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish them from their comrades.
When the GM promotes you, three things happen, in order.
1. More HP
Roll 6d10. If the result is equal to or greater than your current maximum HP, increase your maximum HP by d6.
2. Stat Changes
Roll a d6 against each Stat.
- A result equal to or greater than the Stat increases it by 1, up to the maximum of +6.
- A result below the Stat decreases it by 1.
Stats of −3 to +1 are always increased by 1 — unless the d6 comes up 1, in which case the Stat is reduced by 1 instead, never below −3.
A grvnt with Strength +3 rolls a 2 — Strength drops to +2. A grvnt with Agility 0 rolls a 4 — Agility rises to +1. A grvnt with Toughness −2 rolls a 1 — Toughness sinks to −3.
3. Merits
Roll a d6 and consult the table.
| d6 | Result |
|---|---|
| 1–3 | Nothing happens. Back to the trenches. |
| 4 | The grvnt gains a random War Scroll. |
| 5 | The grvnt is given a random piece of SHIT from the SHIT table. |
| 6 | The grvnt gains 1 piece of SLAGGVARA. |
4. Requisition Points
A grvnt's first Promotion also adds +1 to the squad's Requisition Points (RP) — see SLAGGVARA & Requisitions in the Builder's Manual.
That contribution survives death. If a fallen grvnt's corpse is dragged back to base in a War Pall requisition, their Promotion keeps counting towards the squad's RP.
