Player's Handbook · Chapter 8

Firearms and Ammo

Munitions of death are scarce in the Dying Lands, yet they always seem to find their way into the pockets and tattered haversacks of the most bloodthirsty.

Weapon Entries

Aside from its name and any description, a weapon entry has three main sections: the damage dice roll (e.g. D4), any special or specific effects, and its KEYWORDS.

Firearms

  • In melee, firearms cannot be reloaded — +2 DR to fire in melee.
  • If a weapon has the keyword TWO-HANDED, then a grvnt must spend an action to switch away from that weapon to their Firearm/Sidearm/Shield in combat.
  • A grvnt can choose to spend a combat round aiming to gain either −2 DR to hit or +2 damage.

On Watch

Outside of combat, players can choose to go On Watch. They gain one free ranged attack before rolling initiative if combat starts whilst they are On Watch, but they cannot rest whilst they are.

Getting Ammo

Munitions of death are scarce in the Dying Lands, yet they always seem to find their way into the pockets and tattered haversacks of the most bloodthirsty. Ammo is rolled at the dawn of a new day, but only if a grvnt is out of ammo entirely. A grvnt that can't shoot is just a meatshield for one that can.

Ammo is a general resource — one shared pool, never tied to a specific gun. Any unit of ammo can be spent to fire any weapon you carry, and unspent ammo carries over from one day to the next.

Weapon Keywords

Some weapon keywords are as follows, listed by order of operation:

  1. Scoped — automatic aim; may not be used in melee.
  2. Blast (x) — deal rolled damage to (X) targets within blast.
  3. Impact (x) — ignore (X) Tiers of Armor.
  4. Heavy — degrade cover by one level (regardless of hitting the target); destroy one Tier of Armor on hit.
  5. Shock — force a DR 14 Toughness test or roll d4 on the SHOCK table.
  6. Burn (x) — deal D4 damage for the next (x) rounds.

Spoils of War

Grvnts can search dead bodies for spoils of war. For randomized loot, they will roll a d10 on the following table:

d10Loot
1Nothing.
21 Ammo.
3A lone ration.
4Dog tags (worth d66 silver to the right person).
51 grenade (roll d3 on the Sidearms table).
62 Ammo.
71 SLAGG-dipped Ammo.
8Tattered War Scroll with d2 uses.
9Intact Helmet.
10Sabotaged! (take d4 damage).
