A solo story. You are Roryn Stonehand — 92-year-old dwarf, once the hidden blade behind King Thyson's throne, bought with threats against your family. Then the king's secret gnome lover was murdered, the frame was painted on you, and you ran before the executioner's axe fell.
Now you hide in Oakhaven, a small town where nobody asks questions. Your goal has never changed: clear your name, keep your family safe, and one day make King Thyson answer for everything.
What you do first
Lie low. Gather supplies. Listen in the tavern. Make friends — no one defies King Thyson alone, and every favor you do in Oakhaven is a rope you are braiding toward the throne.
How play works
This is Dungeons & Dragons 5e, played solo. Describe what Roryn does, roll when it matters, and the story moves with your choices. Combat, exploration, and conversation all count — talking your way past Thyson's roughs is as much a victory as fighting them.
Your companions
You begin with Smoky, an uncannily intelligent one-eared cat who rides your shoulder and scouts like a trained spy, and Knocker, your loyal pack goat waiting at the stable. Treat them as story companions: protect them, and they will help you in ways dice alone cannot.
The Spellwright and the Walk
Near town stands a fine stone house with a widow's walk — home of Veyra Spellwright, a master artisan who imbues jewelry, armor, leather, and cloth with runes. The imp Squilch guards the roof. Both are friendly to respectful visitors and fierce about the house. Bring proper materials and fair coin, and Veyra can enhance your treasured gear instead of replacing it. Mind your manners on the Walk.
A word of warning
Thyson's reach is long and his siblings hunger in the east, west, and south. Pick your fights, keep your name out of mouths, and remember who you are: the shadow the throne tried to kill.
