Threads of Oblivion

Threads of Oblivion is a grimdark fantasy setting built on scarcity, fear, and control. Rivers are gone, water is as valuable as gold, and survival is never fair. Kingdoms rule through dependance, quarantine, and force. Magic is rare and watched. Faith is real but silent. Monsters, plague, and power shape every road, city, and choice. Inspired partially by works like the Witcher and Berserk, but it's entirely an original game of it's own.

All is dry

Now the dead ground is moving.

Oblivion Vale lost its rivers three thousand years ago. Water lives in wells, aquifers, and sealed cisterns now, and every crown counts and guards it. Quarantine lines decide who eats. Magic is rare and watched. The gods still grant blessings, but they do not speak.

The Plaguelands sit at the center of the continent and spread in narrow lines called threads. A thread is a strip of dead ground a few paces wide. Where one passes, wells go bitter and seed will not take. Threads crept for centuries. Since the 3180s they have been running.

One of them is under four miles from the deep aquifer that holds the eastern half of the Western March. No crown has announced this. Every crown has started acting on it. Relief camps are running out of everything, the burial orders grow rich on dead ground, and the survey records are for sale if you know who keeps them.

The year is 3A 3192. Take a contract, guard a convoy, walk a survey line. Or bear the rune of a Dreadbound and feel it pull harder the closer you stand to a living thread. Survival has a cost, and someone always collects.

Author's note

Still a work in progress with much more coming! I hope you like this game, I put a lot of work into it. I've been asked to make a dark fantasy, so this is the darkest coffee I can muster for you. If you play a Dreadbound, you'll get a more Witcher-like feel in the game, as that is the main monster hunting class.

Be sure to pick up permits! If you're starting off with weapons or magic, you'll want a Permit to Arms or a Permit to Cast. Hunting monsters within a city will often require a Permit to Hunt. Enjoy the game! Have fun! And try your best... Not to die.

Welcome to Threads of Oblivion, traveler.
