Equipped, Inventory & the Weight You Carry
Everything you own has weight, and the world notices what you refuse to put down. There are two panels on your sheet that the rest of the system reads like a ledger: Equipped — the harness you are wearing and the tools you have readied — and Inventory — everything you carry loose. Neither is decoration. Both feed one number that decides whether you run, wade, or crawl: your Weight against your Carry.
The Equipped panel — what is on you, right now
Equipped is a grid of slots, and a slot is a promise: one thing here. If something is not in a slot, it is not on your body, and the world will not pretend you were faster for it.
| Slot | What lives here | Slots |
|---|---|---|
| Head | helm, crown, hood | 1 |
| Neck | gorget, amulet, scarf | 1 |
| Body | cuirass, jerkin, coat | 1 |
| Back | shield, cloak, pack-harness | 1 |
| Right Hand | weapon, tool, torch | 1 |
| Left Hand | weapon, shield, lantern | 1 |
| Gloves | gauntlets, gloves | 1 |
| Legs | greaves, trousers | 1 |
| Feet | boots, sabatons | 1 |
| Ring | rings and signets | 4 |
| Belt | pouches, tools, sheaths | 4 |
Say what you have readied before a fight the way you would say your armor — the Master takes you at your word, and a surprised hand reaches for a blade you never named. A shield is readied, not worn: it lives in Back or a hand, and while you brace it that hand is not free (see Armor). Two-hand it to swing a heavy blade properly, and your off-hand holds nothing at all.
The Inventory panel — what you carry loose
Inventory is open — you add slots yourself as the story gives you things. Each row is an item (one real piece of gear) and a quantity. What has weight still weighs whether it is in a slot or in your pack; Equipped is about where it is, not whether it counts against you.
Every listed thing is a reference to a real gear file, never a sentence. When you pick up a new thing that has mechanical weight, it earns its own row — the sheet weighs it because the file has a weight. A coat you carry is a row; a coin-purse on your belt is a row.
Weight vs Carry — the indicator that decides
Your sheet weighs everything you carry and reads it against your Carry — the computed Carry = ST × 5 × ORIGIN (kg). The indicator is always the same comparison:
Weight (equipped + inventory) vs Carry (kg)
Weight ≤ Carry → you move freely
Weight > Carry → [ПЕРЕГРУЗКА / OVERLOAD]
Being overloaded is a real mechanical state, not a mood. While Weight > Carry you are [Перегрузка] — a Hard +4 pressure on every roll that asks the body to move, dodge, climb, or hold its footing, and the Master shows the log whenever the weight bites. You are slower to react, slower to recover, and the seams of your pack complain on every descentwards step.
Get under your Carry to clear it: drop a sack, hand the anvil to the mule, sell the hoard, or eat the trail rations. The fix is always a choice with a cost — the world does not reward you for moving weight you refused to set down.
The honest arithmetic
- Weight is the sum of every Equipped slot plus every Inventory row, taken from each gear file's own weight and quantity. It is always shown against Carry — never a number you type.
- Carry is derived from your attributes and ORIGIN by the formula on your sheet (
ST × 5 × ORIGINkg). You do not buy more with points; you raise ST, or you carry less. - Equipped and Inventory are both references — the sheet reasons over real gear files, so it always weighs exactly what the world contains.
Carry one wrapped word of advice into the badlands: everything has a price and a weight. The person who counts both before the road decides what to abandon wins the ground; the one who clutches everything learns the same lesson one labored step at a time.
