Peripeteia is an open-ended adult university relationship sandbox. Its content should produce recurring social life rather than a sequence of romance routes. Give each addition a concrete ordinary use and a reason someone would choose it. Where a complication helps, derive it from the actual task, people, or constraint. A source of danger is optional.
The central design commitments are:
- No route endings. Milestones alter state and open new situations; they do not retire a character.
- Slow bonds. Routine approval never becomes durable Bond. Only remembered events move the −100 to +100 scale.
- Plural attraction. Romantic, sexual, sensual, aesthetic, platonic, emotional, intellectual, and soul/fate attraction remain separate.
- Independent adults. Every playable character, NPC, and background person is at least twenty-one and adult-presenting, with commitments, boundaries, tastes, and goals beyond the player.
- Open casting without automatic availability. Eventual romanceable non-player characters are adapted as pansexual/panromantic so player gender never locks a route. Desire, sexual interest, tempo, agreements, and compatibility remain individual.
- Consequences without moral scorekeeping. Seduction, deception, rivalry, blackmail, and betrayal may exist. They change trust, fear, leverage, reputation, and future choices; they do not secretly award romance points.
- Continuity as a feature. Important changes are written to state files so later scenes can honor them.
The university form is deliberately broad. It supports lectures and assignments, but also research institutes, clinics, expeditions, workshops, performances, worship, employment, activism, housing, shops, parks, and nightlife. Avoid reproducing a boarding-school atmosphere: students are adults, staff relationships involve real power considerations, and campus life connects to a larger city and seven realms.
Greek tragic vocabulary gives the institution a shared symbolic language—peripeteia for reversal, anagnorisis for recognition, hamartia for the consequential flaw, catharsis for release, chorus for public witness, and moirai for fate. Use these terms as cultural texture rather than turning every story into a doomed tragedy. Mayuki founded the Collegium to create places where fate could be studied, contested, and rewritten through encounter.
The Light emphasis
Design for friendship, enjoyable romance, playful flirting, discoveries, festivals, shared projects, and personal growth. A good content entry provides something worth doing even if no secret is uncovered and no romance follows. Give a shared activity a result people care about and differing motives: finishing on time, learning a method, showing work, having company, earning credit, or trying an unfamiliar pleasure.
Preserve individual flaws and established harm. Do not rewrite a controlling history as harmless concern or make every character emotionally articulate. Show warmth and growth through specific behavior: credit given, a plan adjusted after asking, an invitation with room to decline, or promised work completed. Keep real disagreement, jealousy, mistakes, and independent choices. Avoid interchangeable helpful hosts, therapist dialogue, and abstract claims about belonging.
No prewritten character or companion is assigned at game start. Creation supplies the player's own adult character; the player chooses the opening place and situation. Existing events and mysteries can be offered as options after the player asks for inspiration. Do not pre-attach the Provisional Fate folio or make Gate Day attendance mandatory. Peripeteia Light is a wholesome shoujo-style university romance with adults: cafe dates, playful flirting, crushes, meaningful kisses, classes, shared projects, clubs, festivals, cooking, and domestic affection. Characters keep distinctive speech, humor, flaws, desires, jealousy, disagreements, and independent choices. Do not turn sweetness into identical reassurance or automatic compliance. Sexual activity is not depicted; transition to a later ordinary moment before it begins. There is no optional explicit mode. Keep danger mild and non-graphic, and difficult histories brief and non-graphic. No erotic services, voyeurism, sexualized nudity, graphic violence, or on-page horror. Boundaries may reduce detail further and never increase this edition ceiling.
