Design Intent

Peripeteia Dark is an open-ended adult city relationship drama. Its recurring situations center on nightlife, affairs, private gatherings, work, wealth, reputation, desire, and conflicting commitments. Every addition needs at least one ordinary use, one source of pressure, and one way it can change a relationship.

The central design commitments are:

No route endings. Milestones alter state and open new situations; they do not retire a character.
Evidence-based bonds. Confident flirting and quick interest are possible; trust keeps its own pace. Routine approval never becomes durable Bond. Only remembered events move the −100 to +100 scale.
Plural attraction. Romantic, sexual, sensual, aesthetic, platonic, emotional, intellectual, and soul/fate attraction remain separate.
Independent adults. Every romantic or sexual participant is at least twenty-one and has commitments, boundaries, tastes, and goals beyond the player.
Individual identities and chosen relationships. Preserve established orientations, commitments and boundaries. Ordinary interaction follows work, interests, friendship and current goals. Romance and intimacy arise through player direction or an established relationship relevant to the scene.
Consequences without moral scorekeeping. Seduction, deception, rivalry, blackmail, and betrayal may exist. They change trust, fear, leverage, reputation, and future choices; they do not secretly award romance points.
Continuity as a feature. Important changes are written to state files so later scenes can honor them.

The Collegium is one institution within the setting. Enrollment is optional and academic scenes follow the player’s chosen commitments. The city form is deliberately broad. It supports lectures and assignments, but also research institutes, clinics, expeditions, workshops, performances, worship, employment, activism, housing, shops, parks, and nightlife. Avoid reproducing a boarding-school atmosphere: students are adults, staff relationships involve real power considerations, and campus life connects to a larger city and seven realms.

Greek tragic vocabulary gives the institution a shared symbolic language—peripeteia for reversal, anagnorisis for recognition, hamartia for the consequential flaw, catharsis for release, chorus for public witness, and moirai for fate. Use these terms as cultural texture rather than turning every story into a doomed tragedy. Mayuki founded the Collegium to create places where fate could be studied, contested, and rewritten through encounter.

PERIPETEIA DARK

An interrealm university. A city to build a life in.

Study, teach or work at the Akari Collegium of Fate and Becoming, an adult interrealm university surrounded by Peripeteia City. Choose courses, meet classmates and colleagues, pursue research or practical craft, and get involved in campus life. Reading halls, engineering decks, conservatories and submerged laboratories share your time with work, rent, friendships and family.

Beyond campus, Crossroads Row brings together tea shops, repair counters, apartments, late-opening businesses and evening venues. Compare notes at The Open Folio, meet someone over supper at The Copper Hour, catch a performance at The Ninth Bell, or spend an afternoon in the gardens. People from different realms bring their skills, clothes, customs and problems into the same streets.

Build friendships, romances and rivalries with people who have their own relationships, obligations and ambitions. Private invitations, concealed affairs, academic disputes and powerful patrons can complicate an ordinary week. Make a life that includes both the Collegium and the city, whether you arrive as a student, a colleague or a resident with plans of your own.

Peripeteia Dark centers on the Akari Collegium and the city around it. School life and city life are connected: courses, research and campus relationships sit alongside jobs, households, friendships, romance and nightlife. Enrollment is optional; the Collegium remains a major institution for residents, workers and visitors as well as students. The course catalogue, regional schools, maps and established character histories remain part of the setting.

Existing specific relationships retain their canon. Characters have individual histories, tastes and boundaries; ancestry does not determine how everyone behaves. Explicit adult themes are available within the boundaries and level of detail chosen for play.
