Wonders, Talismans & Relics
Wonders in Mage: The Ascension
Magical items in M20 are collectively referred to as Wonders. They fall into distinct categories depending on their origin, power, and whether they contain an internal spirit or Arete score.
Types of Wonders
- Trinkets & Charms:
- Single-use or minor passive magical objects (such as consecrated powders, alchemical draughts, or minor talismans like <@lantern-of-truths.wonder>).
- Talismans:
- Complex magical devices forged with Prime and other Spheres that store their own reservoir of Quintessence and can unleash potent magical effects without tapping the mage's personal reserves. See <@sun-chalice-of-hermes.wonder> and <@storm-cloak.wonder>.
- Artifacts:
- Legendary relics that possess their own innate Arete rating and cast spells independently of the wielder. Highly prized, exceedingly rare, and often possessed of an alien will. See <@astrolabe-of-the-silver-horizon.wonder> and <@chair-of-hagalaz.wonder>.
- Fetishes:
- Items forged through shamanic pacts (Spirit magick) containing an awakened spirit bound into physical form. The spirit unleashes its innate gifts when fed and honored. See <@wolf-fang-fetish.wonder> and <@spirit-dagger.wonder>.
- Periapts:
- Storage vessels that hold pure Quintessence or ambient resonance. See <@tear-of-amaterasu.wonder>.
- Familiars:
- Living beings, spirit companions, or homunculi bound via the Familiar background that share sensory connections and store Quintessence. See <@clockwork-raven-familiar.wonder> and <@owl-familiar.wonder>.
