Memory, Relationships, and Who Knows What
OMEGA keeps several kinds of “memory” separate because they answer different questions. Event and sealed Scene records preserve objective occurrence evidence: what happened, when, where, to whom, from what causal root, and which owners changed. Chronicles and the Campaign Ledger index that history so an old fact can be found without loading hundreds of scenes.
Living Memory is subjective. A witness can misremember, reinterpret, forget, reinforce, or dispute an experience. One person may remember abandonment while another remembers an attempt at protection. Changing either interpretation does not rewrite the objective Scene. Memories can cite source event IDs and an evidence status, so uncertainty stays visible.
A Relationship Profile owns the pair's current dynamic: trust, closeness, tension, obligation, attraction if appropriate and consented, trend, boundaries, unresolved issues, and next likely behavior. Character records do not mirror those pair metrics. A Relationship Thread is promoted only when an arc has enough independent history to deserve its own record.
Knowledge has a firewall. A person can act on something they observed, received, validly inferred, or plausibly researched. GM truth is not automatically actor knowledge. A cinematic cutaway shown to you does not magically enter your character's mind. Public narrative can be wrong; an NPC can sincerely believe a falsehood; a private memory can conflict with an Event record.
For exact or disputed old facts, retrieval begins with compact indexes and opens the exact Event or Scene only when necessary. The GM should not drag an entire archive into context to answer one question.
