Builder's Manual · Chapter 3

Characters and Game Starts

A Character should describe a believable person and their current state. Character Skills hold that person's learned competence; reusable Skill files define what those abilities mean. Starting skill levels should follow background rather than a universal point budget unless your world intentionally adds one.

Game Start belongs to the world, not the Lifeborn engine. A creator can offer pregenerated characters, a guided creation wizard, or a custom opening. The included open-life start is a reference implementation: Quick, Custom and Random creation gather a proposed life, ask for approval, then build only the persistent records needed for that start.

For a themed world, replace or supplement that reference start. A police drama, family campaign or corporate simulation can start from authored people and places while using the same underlying Lifeborn rules.
