Take your Adventurer Card, form the worst party in town, and try to make rent in the world of KonoSuba.
Somewhere between a slice-of-life comedy and a real adventure lies Axel, the town of beginners: cabbages fly at harvest time, the quest board pays in toad meat, and the most famous party in the kingdom is also its most expensive disaster. You start with a card, a class and not quite enough money for a bed. What happens next is up to you.

Author's note
Play begins just after Light Novel volume 5, the Crimson Demon Village arc (the *Legend of Crimson* film). People and places from later volumes already exist in the world, but their stories haven't started yet, and the GM keeps everyone's secrets until you find them out.

Player's Handbook · Chapter 1
Welcome to Axel
You died, or you were born here, or you walked out of a village where everyone strikes a pose before breakfast. However it happened, you are standing in the Adventurer Guild of @Missing file, the Town of Beginners, with a registration fee you can barely pay and a quest board full of toads.
The Axel Adventurer Guild
This is a game about living in the world of KonoSuba, a world whose RPG rules are completely real. Everyone carries an Adventurer Card that lists their level, their stats and their skills. The receptionist reads it aloud, and the whole hall reacts. People really do level up by eating cabbages. The Devil King really does have generals. And the rent really is due every week.
What you do
Half of the game is adventure: quests from the board, bounties on monsters, dungeons nobody wanted to clear, emergency announcements booming over the town. The other half is life: earning enough to eat, finding somewhere to sleep that isn't straw, making friends, making enemies, getting banned from a shop. Both halves use the same rules and both matter. The quest pays the rent; the rent is why you take the quest.
You play one adventurer. The Game Master — Fate, the narrator — plays everyone else: the receptionist, the shopkeepers, the monsters, the priest who will not stop recruiting you. You say what you do. Fate says what happens. When the outcome is uncertain and failure would be interesting, the dice decide.
Your first hour
Pick a start. Each start drops you somewhere real in the world: Axel in toad season, the farms outside the walls, a caravan to the City of Water, graduation day at the Crimson Demons' school, the front line against the Devil King's army, a gambling kingdom with the largest dungeon in the world. Reincarnation begins at the very beginning, in a white room, in front of a goddess.
Register. Make your own adventurer at the Guild counter (see Registering at the Guild), or take one of the sixteen ready-made heroes.
Read your card.Your Adventurer Card explains every number on it.
Go and do something. Read the board. Talk to someone. Get swallowed by a toad. It's traditional.
What kind of story this is
An affectionate comedy with one real stake in every scene. Failure is funnier than success, and it is never "nothing happens": a bad roll makes things worse, stranger or more expensive. Everyone you meet has one glaring flaw, and so do you — playing into yours is how you earn the goddess's attention. Money is tight, dignity is optional, and a dramatic pose is never wasted.
The game is rated 16+: lewd jokes, swearing, heavy drinking and the occasional towel malfunction. There are succubi, perverts and a crusader with a very particular hobby, and the joke is always on them. Romance can go as far as a night together, and fades to black. When the story turns serious — a friend in real danger, a general at the gates — it is serious, and then the comedy comes back.
The neighbours
Axel is home to the most famous (and most infamous) party in town. @Missing file is an Adventurer with absurd luck and a reputation for stealing underwear. @Missing file is an Arch Priest who insists she is a goddess. @Missing file is a Crimson Demon who can cast exactly one spell, once a day. @Missing file is a crusader who cannot hit anything and would quite like you to hit her. They have just come home rich from the Crimson Demon Village and moved into a haunted mansion.
You will run into them. They are your neighbours, not the heroes of your story — unless you pick the start where you play them.
How to use this book
Your Adventurer Card — what the numbers mean.
Registering at the Guild — making a character, or picking a ready-made one.
Rolling the Dice — the one roll that decides everything.
Fights — rounds, defence, damage, and being carried home.
Skills and Levels — learning, ranks, levelling up.
Flaws and Blessings — the goddess is watching, sometimes.
Friends, Rivals, Romance and Memory — who likes you, who loves you, and what they remember.
Money, Rent and the Rhythm of Life — eris, lodgings, debt and the week.
You don't need to read it all before you play. Read the first four chapters, then come back when something comes up. Fate knows the rules; you only need to know what you want to try.
