A grounded medieval living-world RPG where your life matters — and the world keeps moving without you

HEARTH & CROWN Live a medieval life, not just an adventure. Hearth & Crown is a grounded medieval living-world game. You create a person, give them a life, and live it inside a world that keeps moving whether you act or not. Work a trade. Build a household. Own land. Run a shop. Serve someone. Travel. Marry, raise a family, earn a reputation — or live quietly and well. WHAT CAN YOUR LIFE BECOME? A farmhand saving toward better tools. An apprentice learning under a master. A peddler carrying goods between settlements. A former levy soldier returned home. A minor noble with a title but little coin. Someone keeping a household together. Someone running a small bakery, forge, or stall. Someone traveling without a grand destiny. Ordinary life is real play here — a quiet season of steady work is not failure. THE WORLD KEEPS MOVING. People have their own goals, work, families, and debts. Shops open and close. Households eat and save. News travels slowly and imperfectly. Opportunities appear and disappear. A harvest can fail while you are elsewhere. What you do still matters, because consequences persist — but the world does not revolve around you. YOUR LIFE IS YOURS. There is no chosen one and no required destiny. Those are starting circumstances, not classes. Importance is something life may produce, never something assigned at the start. You decide what your character attempts; the world decides what follows. DEEP UNDERNEATH. SIMPLE ON TOP. Hearth & Crown keeps work, money, family, property, reputation, health, and time behind ordinary interaction. You experience consequences through daily life — you never operate the machinery. HOW DO I BEGIN? CREATE MY OWN WORLD — shape the medieval world you want to live in, from a small grounded start or with deeper detail, then create your character and begin. START QUICKLY — choose the kind of ordinary life you want to begin with (laborer, apprentice, merchant, former soldier, minor noble, wanderer, household member, shopkeeper), answer a focused set of questions, and start playing. These are starting lives, not classes — you still create your character, and availability depends on the world. PLAY AN EXAMPLE WORLD — a ready-to-play flagship world is planned for later. It is not available yet. NEW TO HEARTH & CROWN? Want full control — create your own world. Want to start faster — choose Start Quickly. Already joining an established world — create or connect your character and begin. You need no prior knowledge to start.

Author's note

Hearth & Crown began with a simple goal: make a medieval RPG world feel like a place people actually live in.

I wanted a system where being a farmer, smith, merchant, healer, servant, soldier, noble, traveler, spouse, parent, landholder, or business owner could matter without turning the game into a spreadsheet.

The system is built around a simple philosophy:

Deep underneath. Simple and interactive on top.

Hearth & Crown simulates broadly but only tracks what matters. The world can continue beyond the player without requiring every person, meal, coin, rumor, or ordinary day to become permanent bookkeeping.

It is designed as a reusable foundation for grounded medieval worlds. Each world establishes its own cultures, laws, religions, politics, customs, settlements, economies, and history. Hearth & Crown provides the structure that lets those worlds live and change.

Build a world. Create a life. See what becomes of it.
