Doctor Who - The Unfinished Universe
Inspired by the Doctor Who Vortex TTRPG, All of time and space, one blue box, and a universe that remembers what you did last time. Be the Doctor, travel as the companion, or find a ship nobody explained to you.
The universe is unfinished, and somebody has to go and look.
You have a ship that was obsolete before it was stolen, a door that opens onto any moment in history, and a rule you have never broken: never cruel, never cowardly.
Three ways in. Be the Doctor, with the ship and the centuries and the promise. Be the companion, an ordinary person three corridors from the person who knows what is happening. Or be nobody in particular, who found a time machine in a place it had no business being, and has to work out what it does before something else finds you both.
Violence is the least interesting answer available to you. Every scene has a way through that costs nobody their life, and the game pays you for finding it.
**This campaign runs at Expanded scope.** The ship goes to real history, the real future, and the established Doctor Who universe, and it can also arrive somewhere that was never real and was never Doctor Who. A house out of a novel. A city out of a film. Somewhere you loved when you were nine.
Nobody will ask you to choose that and nobody will ask you to justify it. What is worth doing instead is the opposite of asking: name anything you would rather the ship never went near. That list is yours, it stays shut, and you can add to it at any point without giving a reason.
Four things that are easy to miss and change how the game feels.
**Say what you are drawing on before you roll.** A recalled Experience is worth a great deal, and you are asked about it before the dice rather than after you see them.
**Your Flaw is not a penalty.** Playing into it when it genuinely costs you is how you get paid, and a Flaw that never gets you into trouble was the wrong Flaw.
**Nobody is steering you.** Where the ship lands is rolled rather than picked, so the odd detail you decide to poke at is a real thing and not a rail dressed up as one.
**You will not be made to prove you are clever.** The interesting question here is never whether you can. It is whether you should, and what it costs.
