Begin Playing

Begin with a character who wants something and is willing to act. Tell the Game Master what you attempt, how you approach it, and what you hope to achieve. You can speak in character, describe actions, ask what you perceive, or ask for a rules clarification. You do not need to know every feature before the first scene. Read the parts that affect your character, then learn the rest as they become relevant.

Your first session

Watch the prelude, choose an available game start, and create your character or select an offered finished character. The current @Missing file opens at @Missing file in Argenthold. The opening establishes the campaign date and gives your character something immediate to notice or respond to. Bring a reason to be there: work, travel, an appointment, a personal concern, or curiosity. You do not have to accept the first stranger's request to participate in the adventure.

Delianora combines magic, practical trades, machinery, faith, and dangerous old mysteries. Class describes your broad capabilities; profession describes your working life. Your relationships and decisions determine what those capabilities mean. A skilled worker, investigator, performer, or scholar can have as much reason to adventure as a trained fighter.

Describe an approach

“I investigate” is a starting point. “I compare the courier's seal with the letter we received, keeping the letter out of his sight” gives the scene an approach and a purpose. The Game Master determines whether a roll is needed and which ability, skill, tool, or feature applies. Routine actions may simply succeed. Impossible actions need a different plan, additional help, or a change in circumstances.

When the stakes are unclear, ask what your character understands about the risk before committing. A failed roll can cost time, supplies, trust, position, or safety. Repeating the same attempt without changing anything does not make the obstacle disappear. Use the new situation to choose your next action.

Knowledge and choice

You may know more about the setting than your character does. Treat public history as the starting point for understanding the world, and let your character learn private truths through play. Images in the prelude invite curiosity; they do not automatically give your character firsthand knowledge of ancient events or divine motives.

Keep your character's goals and discoveries in the Journal. When something changes—an injury, purchase, promise, spell expenditure, or completed job—check that the relevant record reflects it. You may make an agreed sheet change yourself or ask the Game Master to do it. Say which route you are taking so the same change is not applied twice. If a result contradicts an established fact, point it out and resolve the discrepancy before building further consequences on it.

Earn a living, follow a rumor, protect a community, uncover a buried truth, or pursue an ambition of your own. Your ancestry, class, profession, and relationships give you a place in the world. What you make of it is yours to discover.

Author's note

A playable world in active development. The core systems, character-creation flow, class and profession progressions, historical framework, and cinematic prelude form the current build checkpoint. Further development focuses on locations, people, game starts, and connected adventures.

Begin with the Player’s Handbook for character creation and play. The Builder’s Manual explains how to extend the setting consistently. Fresh-character and opening-session playtesting is the next step; some locations and story connections are still being developed.
