Player's Handbook · Chapter 5

Feats and Advancement

Everything beyond the basics is a Feat, bought with XP. There are four types.

  • General Feats are training, professions, trades and skills. Most are passive and use no pool. They are the only feats that can raise a core stat, Defense or Actions per turn.
  • Mana Feats are magic. They spend Mana.
  • Energy Feats are tech. They spend Energy.
  • Stamina Feats are physical techniques. They spend Stamina.

Every feat lists its XP cost, its Resource Cost per use, its action, its effect and its prerequisites. Pools refresh on rest.

Clear-cut rules

  • Every feat is 1 Action, 2 Actions, Passive, or Free Action, Once per turn.
  • Free actions are for movement feats only. You can use one movement feat per turn, and its movement comes on top of your normal Move.
  • There are no reactions.
  • There are no per rest or per day limits. Only the Legendary Feats keep theirs. They need Character Power 14 to buy.
  • Every condition says how long it lasts. The default is until the end of the target's next turn.
  • A passive gives a permanent bonus that the sheet adds for you, such as "Passive. Permanent +2 Awareness." Mana, Energy and Stamina feats can also give permanent bonuses to skills, saves, Initiative and Speed.
  • Feats never change other feats.

Branches and chains

The library has about 1,350 feats. Most sit in branch families such as Pyromancy, Cryomancy, Vitakinesis, Summoning, Weapon Mastery and Enhanced Strength. Your archetype names the branches it uses. Inside a branch, strong feats sit at the end of a chain, and you buy the early steps first. You may skip a prerequisite by paying +40 XP, but the whole chain is usually the better deal. The pricing behind every feat is open in @Missing file.

Spending XP on yourself

XP also raises stats, Health and pools directly. The cost climbs as the number grows. The tables are in @Missing file and @Missing file. Early Health costs 1 XP a point. A stat step costs 3 to 20 XP depending on how high it is. Pools cost 2 XP a point while small. Health soft-caps at 50 and a single pool at 40.

Stat-boosting General Feats

Only General Feats raise a core stat. Each one gives +1, costs 20 XP or more and ends a chain. You may hold at most two per stat.
