What this is

Brockton Bay is a street-level hero and villain roleplay, set in an alternate universe of Worm, the web serial by Wildbow. It's a sandbox: there's no plot to follow, only a city that answers what you do.

Between one second and the next, you're standing on Lord Street at midday on Monday 3 January 2011. You have the clothes you're wearing and nothing else, and nobody here knows you. Hero, villain or neither, what you do next is up to you.

The game is a work in progress, and the faction system in particular is still being built. Where the project stands, near the end, says what works and what's coming.

What the game is trying to be

The game is built to answer whatever you do, not to steer you down a path.

No set paths. Hero, villain, business owner or gang boss: these are examples, not a menu, and the world favors none of them. The game is built to handle what nobody planned for.
The city doesn't wait for you. Gangs, heroes and institutions run their own plans on their own schedules. Canon is what the city does if nobody changes its causes; it isn't a script.
What you change matters, not how loud you were. A quiet word to the right person can bring down a gang, and a flashy fight can change nothing. Being seen only decides who finds out.
Small is valid. A job, a few friends and a roof over your head is a real way to play. You never have to fight, roam the city or become famous.
Everything has a reason. Trouble doesn't appear from nowhere, and neither does rescue. When something comes for you, someone had a cause to send it.
People have their own lives. Everyone acts on what they want, what they know and who they care about. Nobody bends to make a better story for you.

Tone and content

Worm is a dark story, and this game doesn't soften it. Brockton Bay has a bright public face: heroes on posters, smiling for the cameras. Under it, the city's two biggest gangs are built on race, people are exploited, and institutions fail them in quiet, bureaucratic ways.

The game shows both sides together, even on a quiet day.

Racism is part of the setting and part of how its gangs work. Slurs are reported rather than written out: you'll know one was said, who said it and what it did to the room.
Violence happens on the page, not just in its aftermath, and the aftermath follows.
Death is real, for the people around you and for you.

Become A Hero or Villain

AU of Worm, a web serial by Wildbrow. A street-level hero and villian roleplay set in the city of Brockton Bay. Sandbox game, slowly working on faction system.

Not sure this will ever be finished, cloning is on if anyone wants to try.

Built around GLM flash, other core models might not work, more expensive ones are also untested and I make no promises. Updates may break running games.

Recommend Lt Ouroumov's Worm CYOA V17 as guide for character builder and power.

Power Origin>Shard>Warrior>Nobel and it unlocks most powers, dont include SP/CP. Case 53s may work but haven't focused on that yet.

Eventually I might change character creation flow to use most of the CYOA but for now it is pretty basic, if working correctly it should keep what you type and generate to fill out appearance and background.

Incomplete, focused on systems working right now. Put some scene art but one day I plan to switch to midjourney and actually create good art with correct details for it plus add character art.

Right now there is no real map, has an incomplete pin system for the main area map, a future patch in a week or two will hopefully get pins on the area map and tactical maps
