Builder's Manual · Chapter 1

What Avalon Is Built From

Avalon is a Living World Simulation on Craft: one protagonist file, a cast of dossiers, a gazetteer of locations, priced equipment, canon lore, a game start, and a GM manual. Clone it and you have a working cosy campaign, not a template.

The pieces

Characters hold people. One protagonist sheet plus one dossier per NPC. Pools, money, skills, strain stacks, and inventory live here, so play updates files, never chat memory.
Locations hold places. Each is a stageable scene with atmosphere and notes for pins, travel, and daily life.
Equipment holds priced, weighable things. Everything Phillip can buy, carry, or patent draws from here.
Lore holds canon truth: gazetteer, magic, bond, economy, trial ladder, threats. When memory and a lore file disagree, the file wins.
Game Start holds the lobby card. Play configuration lives in designation metadata, not file content.
GM Instructions hold the live table guide: how to run turns on this platform using these files.

Design intent

Work over heroics. Every system — trust debt, patent fees, strain stacks, trial ladder — pushes the player toward honest labour, craft, and earned recognition. Keep that pressure whenever you extend anything: new content should create jobs, costs, mentors, or deadlines, not loot drops.

Where to start extending

Read the Player's Handbook chapters first so you never contradict them.
Read the Session Manual for where each kind of truth lives.
Add one street, one NPC, and one job before touching systems. Avalon grows outward from Verrow, not downward from cosmology.

The Premise

A reborn engineer follows a soul-bond into Verrow.

Phillip arrives in Verrow with a drawing kit, a soul-bond, and a second life's knowledge. Learn the craft, file the patent, train the gift — and earn a name worth reporting to the Count. A cosy, grounded campaign of work, warmth, and quiet marvels.
