Leveling Up
Milestones mark a change in your story: a hard-won victory, a dangerous journey survived, a debt repaid, or another achievement your GM names. There is no experience-point total to track. When your GM says you have reached a milestone, you gain one level.
What a level gives you
When you gain a level:
- Increase your level by 1.
- Increase your maximum Health, Mana, and Stamina by 1 each.
- Gain 2 skill points. Spend each point to raise one core skill by 1. No skill may exceed +3.
You can put both points into one skill if it is below +3, or split them between skills. If a skill is already +3, you cannot raise it further. You do not need to spend both points on the same kind of skill, and your class does not restrict your choices.
Resource changes from skills
Endurance, Intellect, and Vigor each govern one resource maximum:
| Skill raised | Maximum resource also increases by |
|---|---|
| Endurance | +2 Health |
| Intellect | +2 Mana |
| Vigor | +2 Stamina |
These increases are in addition to the +1 to all three maximums from gaining the level. Other skills do not directly change resource maximums.
Your new maximums are recalculated from your level and linked skill ratings:
- Maximum Health = (Endurance × 2) + level
- Maximum Mana = (Intellect × 2) + level
- Maximum Stamina = (Vigor × 2) + level
The formulas already include both level and linked-skill gains. Do not add the same increases a second time. Your current pools do not automatically refill when you level; they remain at their current values, but cannot exceed the new maximums. A safe rest restores them to their current maximums.
Example: reaching level 5
A level 1 character begins with 7 skill points. If the GM awards a milestone level at each step from level 2 through level 5, the character gains four levels and 8 more skill points—2 at each level—for 15 skill points total. Each skill rating is still capped at +3. Allocate the points across the full set of 13 core skills, including skills your class does not emphasize.
The class stays a guide, not a cage
Your class describes your calling and gives you its listed features. Unless a feature explicitly says otherwise, leveling does not automatically grant a new class feature, equipment, or skill bonus. The GM and group decide whether a campaign adds further class progression; keep any additions explicit and consistent with the core skill and resource limits.
