Player's Handbook · Chapter 5

Progression

Jobs pay. Fights teach you to live through the next one. Everything else is just talk.

Earning XP

You earn XP on your Character sheet — it's per-character, not per-party:

  • Complete a Job: +3 XP. The GM decides what counts — you took the contract, did the work, and got consequences. Delivery, extraction, site clear, deal closed.
  • Survive a Combat: +1 XP. Everyone who was in the fight tracker and lived to the ending gets 1 — whether you won, fled (gap 3), or surrendered and were spared. If you died, you don't learn from it.

That's it. No XP for single rolls, kills, or loot.

Leveling Up

Every 5 XP = 1 Level.

  • You start at Level 1 (0 XP), Level 2 at 5 XP, Level 3 at 10 XP, and so on.
  • Your Level, XP in Current Level, and XP to Next Level are calculated automatically — check the Progression card on your sheet.
  • XP never resets. 7 XP means Level 2 with 2/5 toward Level 3.

When you hit a new Level (5, 10, 15…), pick ONE:

  1. +1 to a Stat — Brawn, Wits, Reflex, or Charm — to a max of 5.
  2. +1 Max Health or +1 Max Energy — increase maxHealth or maxEnergy by 1, and immediately restore 1 to that pool as well.
  3. New Card — add one new Card to your sheet from the cards available in this campaign. The GM approves which cards are available.

Record your choice, update your sheet, and keep playing. There's no catch-up — the choice is permanent.

Example: Mara has 8 XP (Level 2, 3 to go). She finishes a job (+3) → 11 XP → Level 3. She picks a new Card — now she has 3 cards, and needs 4 more XP for Level 4.
