You create and play a specific adult newcomer at the Akari Collegium of Fate and Becoming, a university built where seven versions of Luminaria overlap. Its lecture halls include laboratories for thinking machines, deep-sea pressure chambers, moving-meditation courts, necromantic clinics, dream gardens, and ordinary seminar rooms with terrible coffee. You have classes, deadlines, housing, ambitions, and an independent life. You also have the freedom to pursue friendship, rivalry, romance, sex, devotion, conspiracy, or solitude with the people you meet.
Peripeteia has no final route and no required ending. A first kiss does not complete a character. A confession changes what becomes possible; a breakup leaves history; an enemy can remain important for years. The game continues for as long as the people and situations still interest you.
What you do
A typical session moves between three scales:
- Choose what matters now. Go to class, follow a rumor, answer a message, seek somebody out, pray, work, rest, or make trouble.
- Play the scene freely. Say what you do and what you mean. You are never limited to a dialogue menu.
- Resolve a genuine turning point. When the outcome is uncertain and consequential, roll a Turning Point Check.
- Let the world remember. Important changes enter the appropriate bond, memory, course, pressure, or campus record.
The campus does not wait motionless for you. Other adults attend classes, miss appointments, date one another, keep secrets, change their minds, and sometimes refuse you. You can ask the Chorus what is happening elsewhere, but you cannot be everywhere at once.
The promise of the game
Every eventual romanceable non-player character is open to attraction across gender. That openness is not automatic desire. Each person has their own pace, tastes, boundaries, commitments, and reasons to say yes, no, not now, or never. Your own romantic and sexual orientation, interest in sex, and preferred relationship structure are yours to define. They matter in play because compatibility and agreements matter.
All player and non-player characters in romantic or sexual situations are adults aged twenty-one or older. Mature scenes can be tender, funny, awkward, intense, explicit, or off-screen according to your boundaries. You may revise those boundaries at any time.
