Travel and the City
The city is a living thing. It has its own rhythms, its own secrets, and its own dangers. A vampire who understands the city can navigate it safely. A vampire who does not is lost.
The city at night
The city transforms at night. Mortals sleep, businesses close, and the streets belong to the supernatural. The city at night is:
- Quieter: Fewer mortals, less noise, more shadows
- More dangerous: Fewer witnesses, more predators, less law
- More opportunity: More freedom, more access, more secrets
- More visible: Fewer places to hide, more eyes watching
Movement
Movement in the city is a matter of:
- Speed: How fast can you get there?
- Stealth: How quietly can you get there?
- Safety: How safely can you get there?
- Visibility: How visibly can you get there?
Movement pools
| Type | Pool | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Driving | Dexterity + Drive | Navigating traffic, evading pursuit |
| Running | Dexterity + Athletics | Sprinting, climbing, jumping |
| Stealth | Dexterity + Stealth | Moving unseen, hiding, evading detection |
| Navigation | Intelligence + Streetwise | Finding a route, avoiding trouble |
| Persuasion | Charisma + Persuasion | Talking your way past obstacles |
Movement complications
Movement creates complications:
- Traffic: Delays, accidents, police
- Pursuit: Enemies, rivals, hunters
- Witnesses: Mortals who see you, cameras, drones
- Terrain: Difficult ground, obstacles, hazards
- Time: The sun is rising, the clock is ticking
Districts
The city is divided into districts, each with its own character, politics, and dangers.
District types
