Player's Handbook · Chapter 4

Memory and Relationships

Storybook preserves objective history in eight-turn Scenes, ten-Scene Chronicles, and a bounded Campaign Ledger. Old facts are retrieved through tags and chapter summaries; the GM does not load hundreds of turns to answer one question.

Living Memory is subjective. One person may remember, “I was abandoned,” while another remembers, “I was trying to protect them.” Certainty, emotional color, reinforcement, misunderstanding, and later reconsolidation can change what someone believes. The archived objective Scene does not change because a witness reinterprets it.

A Relationship Profile owns the pair's current dynamic. Most friendship, romance, rivalry, family, mentorship, promise, betrayal, and inherited-bond arcs stay as compact threads inside it. Only an arc with enough independent history earns a separate Relationship Thread.
