Builder's Manual · Chapter 2

Clone It in Six Decisions

Do these six things before adding bulk content.

  1. Rewrite the Tier ladder. Define what each step can affect that the previous step generally cannot.
  2. Rename or replace the Ratings. Keep four unless the genre truly needs another shape; every extra rating gives the GM another ambiguous boundary.
  3. Define the Resource economy. Keep only currencies that create recurring choices. Delete Focus if the World does not need it.
  4. Write two or three Paths. Each Path should express a different growth fantasy and a different route to breakthrough.
  5. Give each Path a small signature Technique set. Techniques should change permission through scope, cost, limits, mastery, or narrow Reach rather than becoming damage paragraphs.
  6. Replace the Trial Platform with one Game Start that proves the system. Put a Tier gap on screen early enough that direct power, earned leverage, and Technique Reach lead to visibly different possibilities.

A compact first World can work with one System Profile, two or three Paths, a handful of Techniques, one recurring Resource, one Threat, one Progress Track, and one strong Game Start. Expand after that loop is fun and reliable.
