The One Who Remembers

A single-player, story-driven D&D 5e (2024) campaign: one player plays a level-20 legend reborn at level 1 and walks a designed plot from start to finish (levels 1–20) — not a sandbox. A single-player story campaign · Levels 1–20

You already lived this story. You lost. This time, the ending is yours to write.

You were level 20. You and the best friends you'll ever have stormed the Hollow Sovereign's lair — and lost. Someone spoke a wish: “I wish we could fix this.” White light. You wake in your own bed, level 1, in a world that never learned your name.

This is a single-player story campaign — one player, an AI-run Game Master, and one designed plot from level 1 to level 20 with a beginning, a middle, and an end. It is not a sandbox: the world is a stage, and every quest, clock, and consequence exists to carry the story to its finale. Every level-up is earned by completing a hand-crafted main quest — at least one per level, from the first job to the final battle — so nothing levels you but the campaign's own story. No grinding. Your choices decide how the story is told — who lives, who falls, which ending you earn. Expect a full arc from the first job to the last battle.

The only thing that crossed with you is an ember of your old power, and what you do with it is your choice — two ways to play.

Take the Epic Boon and carry a level-19 legend's strength in a level-1 body: godlike instincts, fragile as a fresh adventurer, deadly as the self you're slowly becoming. Rewrite history the way only raw might can.

Or leave the ember behind — a level-1 nobody who remembers, out-thinking a world that repeats itself. Every victory is earned through choice, not might, and the future is changed by sheer refusal to let it happen twice.

This campaign is written for a character of your own making — creating your own character is strongly recommended (a quick-start pregen exists if you'd rather jump straight in).

The history you lived once is replaying around you, and only you remember it. Your old friends are out there, living ordinary lives, not knowing they once stood at your side. You aren't relearning — you're reawakening, leveling far faster than a normal campaign on the road back to the battle you already lost. Get it right this time — with the ember, or without it.

Author's note

August 17 - 1.1, added guardrails to over-eager GM and tried to reduce GM context

August 14 - Version 1.0, first public release

If you play this and enjoy it, I would absolutely love to hear your feedback! Likewise, if you have thoughts for improvements, run into any bugs, I'd love to hear from you to! I intend to keep working on and iterating on the game, so any and all feedback is welcome.

Missing images will continue to be populated and added to the game as I get my daily energy allotment.
