Warhammer Fantasy: The Old World
D&D 5e (2024)

A grim and perilous land where kingdoms teeter on the brink of ruin, the Old World is scarred by endless war, treachery, and the creeping taint of Chaos. Men, dwarfs, and elves struggle to hold civilization against beastmen, orcs, undead, and worse. Life is brutal and short, hope fragile and fleeting—but in defiance of despair, mortals still raise steel, faith, and fire against the darkness. (Please read the Autho's Notes.)

Adventure, survival, and grim destiny in the Old World.

In a world of steel, faith, and ruin, survival is victory.

Warhammer Fantasy: The Old World is a dark fantasy roleplaying experience set within the grim and war-torn lands of the Old World. From the crowded streets of the Empire to the haunted forests of Bretonnia and the frozen wastes beyond Kislev, players are thrown into a world where corruption, war, disease, and Chaos constantly threaten civilization.

Travel dangerous roads filled with bandits, beastmen, undead horrors, and creatures pulled from nightmare and legend. Seek shelter in isolated roadside inns, bustling market towns, ancient dwarf holds, or crumbling castles long abandoned by their noble rulers. Every journey carries risk, and even the smallest decisions may shape the fate of entire regions.

Create anything from humble peasants and wandering mercenaries to knightly nobles, witch hunters, scholars, priests, rogues, and battle-hardened adventurers. The rebuilt character system is designed to better reflect the harsh and grounded nature of the Warhammer world, offering both quick character creation for immediate play and deeper options for players who want extensive customization.

The world itself is built around freedom, exploration, and consequence. Dynamic travel systems, wilderness encounters, city events, faction interactions, and evolving regional conflicts ensure that no two campaigns unfold the same way. Manage companions, hirelings, mounts, vehicles, and even player-owned properties while navigating the fragile balance between survival, ambition, and loyalty.

Whether you are hunting cultists in the shadows of Altdorf, escorting caravans through the forests of Bretonnia, surviving the cursed ruins of Sylvania, or simply trying to make enough coin to survive another winter, Warhammer Fantasy: The Old World aims to capture the brutal, atmospheric, and deeply immersive spirit of the classic setting.

In the Old World, glory is rare, death is common, and every legend begins with surviving the next road ahead.

Author's note

⚠️Update: 24.05.2026 : Welcome to Warhammer Fantasy: The Old World. I only recently imported this module from Friends & Fables, so at the moment everything is still a bit of a mess.

Craft offers far more options than Friends & Fables, which also means there is currently a huge amount of work to do on this project. For example, I have to rebuild and reset all areas and points of interest on the map — more than 700 in total. Classes and races are still missing essential components that did not exist in Friends & Fables, and backgrounds need to be rebuilt completely from the ground up.

In other words, it will still take some time before this project moves beyond the Alpha stage. You can already play it and create characters, but you may encounter bugs, unfinished systems, or other unpleasant experiences. To give everyone an overview of the current progress, I created a roadmap showing what I am working on. Some of these steps may take time due to other commitments I have outside the project.

Roadmap Current Phase: Cleanup and File Restructuring Cleaning up and reorganizing files. Removing D&D monsters and other content that does not fit the Warhammer setting. Rebuilding the world map to restore it to its original state. Phase 2: Campaign Systems Adding a Campaign Tracker with: Group management Summons Hirelings Adventure journals/diaries Additional campaign tools Improving the AI’s ability to use lore correctly. Reworking lore integration and fixing the memory system. Phase 3: Character Systems Rebuilding races. Creating and expanding backgrounds. Reworking the class system into something that better supports long-term RPG progression and character evolution during play. Adding travel and encounter systems. Very Distant Phase (Future Ideas)

These are features I would like to implement eventually, but they are far lower priority:

A full Mass Combat System. I already have a mass combat framework from my D&D Birthright campaign that would fit this setting perfectly. If I ever have the time, I would also like to introduce systems for: Owning land Managing a fief or barony Running an entire realm These systems are also adapted from my Birthright table, allowing players to eventually become major rulers or warlords within the Warhammer world. Floating Phase (Ongoing Improvements)

These are improvements that may happen gradually alongside the main roadmap:

Map Improvements

Ymina will try to provide better maps over time. Most of the current maps were created using the cheapest Friends & Fables model before I later switched to ChatGPT, so many of them are honestly quite rough and need major upgrades.

Magic Expansion

So far, I have converted more than 400 spells directly from Warhammer Fantasy rather than relying on D&D spells. Because of that, spell progression is currently limited to around level 5.

I plan to expand the spell lists further to give the different Winds of Magic more variety and depth. However, magic in Warhammer will still remain far more specialized than in D&D. If you are a Fire Mage in Warhammer, you generally focus on doing one thing extremely well:

Burning things.

If you still want to try Warhammer Fantasy: The Old World in its current Alpha state, then have fun creating a character — or choosing one of the available premade characters!
